Walter Arlen’s First Century
Monday, November 4th, 4:00pm
Austrian exile composer Walter Arlen’s near-century on earth comes to life via his music and recollections in this wide-ranging documentary. Arlen’s life exemplifies the tragedy of European Jewry. Growing up in Vienna, Arlen’s father was taken away by the Nazis, never to return, and his mother subsequently lost her sanity. Yet the composer who was ignored for four decades has become celebrated, especially in Vienna, where he’s one of the major figures in the Exile Art project and museum.
